DETAINED CHILDREN: PUBLIC MEETINGS

The Human Rights Commission are holding public meetings in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch to discuss the rights of children in detention.

Children detained in State Institutions are vulnerable to neglect and abuse. The Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture (OPCAT) provides an opportunity to monitor the experience of children detained in prisons, youth facilities, police cells and elsewhere. Public meetings are to be held in:

Wellington 26 February - 1.30- 3.00 pm
Auckland 5 March - 1.00 -3.00 pm
Christchurch 12 March - 11.00 am -1.00 pm
